About Us

The Association for Community Living – Beausejour Branch Inc. (ACL-BB) is a non-profit, community-based organization which provides person-centered opportunities for adults living with intellectual disabilities to lead the life they choose with dignity and respect.

Our History

The Association for Community Living – Beausejour Branch Inc. (ACL-BB) started in 1961, providing day time supports for individuals with disabilities.

In 1987 ACL-BB expanded its programming to include residential support services, and in conjunction with the “Welcome Home Project” opened their first community residence to support individuals who were moving out of institutional living into community settings. That year also marked the launch of the Supported Independent Living Program, where individuals are supported in their own homes to live as independently as possible in the community.

Supported Employment Options was born in 1990, to meet the needs of individuals facing barriers to employment, to seek out, secure and maintain employment opportunities in the community.

In 1993, the North Eastern Regional Recycling Facility (NERRF) was opened under the umbrella of ACL-BB, and operated as a recycling drop off and processing center for the community. As the years passed and ACL-BB’s other programs and services continued to grow, the need for additional programming space was apparent and the Board of Directors made the difficult decision in 2010 to close the operations of the NERRF program, turning the responsibility of recycling back over to the municipality.

As the years pass, ACL-BB continues to grow and evolve, and continues to develop and provide a variety of support services to individuals based on their personal goals and dreams.

Membership

Members of the Association for Community Living – Beausejour Branch Inc. have a vested interest in the agency, its Mission, Vision and Values. A membership entitles you to one vote on issues and resolutions addressed at the Annual General Meeting each September. You will also receive notification of all ACL-BB events, news and initiatives. Our Board of Directors

ACL-BB is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall be ethically responsible to the general public, by representing the agency through its Mission, Vision and Values, in a responsible and effective manner. The Board of Directors are nominated by the general membership at the Annual General Meeting which is held each year in September. Terms of appointment are 3 years, and each member brings a different set of skills and knowledge to the Board, either from personal or professional experiences.
